
Tour Lighthouses
Beautiful and historic lighthouses are one of the many attractions of the islands. Special tours get you to the lighthouses quickly and safely. You can 1) climb Boston Light, the oldest continually used light station in the U.S. or 2) tour three historic lighthouses by boat with a park ranger. Choose the tour that’s right for you or your group.
Boston Light Tour
This three-hour adventure begins with a thirty minute narrated tour on a comfortable vessel through the Boston Harbor Islands, where you will experience the rich maritime history of the islands with a park ranger. You will view the two other historic lighthouses of Boston Harbor: Long Island Light and The Graves Light. Disembark at Little Brewster Island to visit the first and oldest lighthouse station in the United States, and the last to retain a U.S. Coast Guard keeper. Climb the 76 steps (and two ladders) up Boston Light's tower and see the historic Fresnel lens. Bring a lunch while you enjoy a unique and unforgettable view of Boston Harbor. Tours depart from the Moakley Courthouse Dock, at the west corner of the Moakley Federal Courthouse and across Northern Avenue from the Barking Crab Restaurant.

Occassionally, we offer a three-hour cruise around Boston Harbor while you take in beautiful views and learn about three of Boston Harbor's historic lighthouses. First, passengers pass by Long Island Head Light on the largest of Boston Harbor's islands—Long Island. Then, experience Boston Light first-hand when we land on Little Brewster Island to explore the first and oldest lighthouse station in the country. Finally, visitors sail around Graves Light, which is located on The Graves, the outermost island in Boston Harbor. A park ranger leads the occassional tour, passing along some of the fascinating history of the Boston Harbor Islands. Three-Lighthouse Tours are not scheduled at this time.

Buying Tickets—Tours often sell out in advance. We highly recommend booking tickets early. See "More" below to check availability and buy tickets.
Transportation & Parking—The Courthouse Dock, is convenient to public transportation. South Station (on the Red Line and Commuter Rail) is an 8-10 minute walk; Courthouse (on the Seaport Silver Line) is a 3-5 minute walk. Nearby parking- available at 25 Northern Avenue which is a 2-4 minute walk; the fee is $12. International Place (100 Purchase St.) is a 6-8 minute walk. The fee is $11; bring your ticket and we will stamp it for a $2 discount. This is a secure location and IDs will be checked.
